Temperature
Today we continued on our exploration of temperature. We've discussed warm vs. cool colours and today we had the children sort accordingly.
We did some work on climates as well. Using the tablets, we had the children use a game (http://pbskids.org/sid/fablab_weathersurprise.html) to sort items according to their climates. This game helps children use their temperature knowledge and challenges them to sort into two or more categories.
We have expanded their knowledge of thermometers and how to read them. They understand that when there is more red in the thermometer that it means it's warmer, when there's little it's cooler, and that when the red matches up to the number 0, it's the freezing point. We had 3 mock drinks at 3 different temperatures and
Expansion: When you're walking by a thermometer, ask your child to tell you what the temperature is. If they can't read the exact number, ask them if it's reading warm/cool or hot/cold!

Our friends had a chance to create a graph by sorting clothing and items based on the reading of the thermometer. What a surprise... they all thought it was so easy!
These blocks had the numbers on a thermometer. During activity time it was left out for children to build a thermometer based on the order of the numbers on the thermometer picture provided. The numbers ranged from -30 to +30 in the 5 count intervals. Way to go friends!
